Knoop & Vickers hardness test differs from Rockwell testing in many ways.  First, you measure the size of the impression, not the depth of penetration.  While a Rockwell test uses forces from 15 kg to 150 kg, Knoop and Vickers testing uses loads from 10 grams to 50 kilograms.  Extensive surface prep is usually require when making a Knoop or Vickers test.

There are two types of diamonds used in micro hardness testing, Vickers and Knoop.
